Where are you from originally? I’m a Yooper!
Year that you got involved with roller derby: I did Fresh Meat in 2015 and started NSOing [acting as a non-skating official] for KRD in the 2016 season.
How did you first get involved? I was first introduced when I lived in Mount Pleasant downstate in 2012 and ran into a local roller girl who gave me her business card. I didn’t get involved until I moved back home and saw KRD Fresh Meat flyers.
How did you pick your derby name? My actual derby name is Goremet Cupcake which was suggested by my derby wife, but everyone calls me Puff which is short for Hufflepuff.
What’s your favorite part of officiating? I love being a part of this group of amazing people who all empower each other to be their best selves. I also love being involved, the team and volunteers work so hard to make bouts happen.
What’s the hardest part? I have to work really hard not to be distracted by the game while officiating!
What advice do you have for people who want to play or officiate roller derby? Just talk to one of us! We love when people want to get involved and someone will point you in the right direction.
